Participating schools will also receive a Free Educational guest visit to the classroom from the African Community, together with cultural Art & Music workshops and soccer shirts. Spirit of Africa Galway is one of a number of events organised throughout Ireland to celebrate Africa day and is perfect opportunity for local business to support cultural diversity in the city.

An evening Music concert is also planned for Tuesday 25 May at the Quays bar featuring Galway's African calypso group the Toluking Band launching their latest CD release "Story Story", Full Line up to be announced presenting Young rhythm poets Lucky and friends, a Fashion Show and Cultural Dance Group.

This will be Galway’s third Africa Day Event organized by Spirit of Voice productions. Previous live music outdoor concerts, fashion shows and talent competitions have been held in Eyre Square, NUIG Bar, Lisbrook house and on the World Volvo Ocean Race Stage Galway last year.

Africa Day, which falls on 25 May annually, is the official day of the African Union and marks African unity. It is an opportunity to celebrate African diversity and success, and join Africans around the world in highlighting the cultural and social energy of the continent.

Irish Aid, the Government’s overseas development programme, is delighted to support the celebration of Africa Day in Ireland. In May 2010, a programme of awareness- raising and educational events will take place across the country to celebrate Africa Day from May 15-25.
